She was in foster care most of her childhood. Later on in 1937, a family friend took her in for a few years.
She and her merchant marine boyfriend got married in 1942. He ended up going to the South Pacific for war. While her husband was away, Monroe went to work in a factory and was then discovered by a photographer where she eventually became a model. She had big plans to become an actress.
Her marriage did not last long once her husband returned home from war and she focused more on her modeling career. They soon got divorced in 1946. This was the same year she signed her first movie contract.
With the new movie contract came a new name and image. This is when she changed her name to Marilyn Monroe. Her movie career really started taking off in 1950 when she starred in The Asphalt Jungle and All About Eve.
In 1962, Marilyn Monroe was found dead in her Los Angeles, California apartment with an empty bottle of sleeping pills beside her bed.
